Morrisons – Maghull store to stay open but what’s happening around it?

Hearing of the hard times of Morrisons recently made some folk wonder if their Maghull store would be one for the chop as it is quite small – too small really with a far too limited stock space.

The good news is that it’s refurbishment will continue and it is staying.

But as this news filtered out so it also became apparent that Sefton Council, which owns the adjacent land, has all but sold it. The land, as I have mentioned previously, is that of the former Stafford Moreton Youth Centre and the old Maghull Library site – Maghull Library having relocated to Meadows Leisure Centre back in 2010.

The old library/youth centre site is prime development land right in the heart of Maghull’s shopping district so it’s final end use could possibly be the retail challenge that Morrisons may well have taken it’s eye off? We will see.
