Merseyrail – Testing the new Class 777’s

A mock-up of a Class 777 – The new Merseyrail trains that will soon replace the Class 507/508 EMU’s

I’ve not actually snapped a new Class 777 live so the two shots in this posting are of the the mock-up which was on public view a while back at Liverpool Lime Street Station and Pacific Road in Birkenhead. However, there are videos appearing on You Tube now of the testing of the first batch of new units on the Merseyrail Network and here’s a link to one:-

This shows a Class 777 at Sandhills and at Bootle Oriel Road only yesterday evening.

For those wondering what the new trains look like for real, as opposed to the mock-up one (see photo above) that was on show in Liverpool & Birkenhead, the link below shows the first one being delivered to Merseyrail’s Kirkdale Depot on 15th January:-

Bootle Oriel Road Station – Then and Now

This short video is interesting as it shows the station in earlier days when freight trains regularly travelled through it plus steam hauled passenger trains to and from Southport as well.

But look at it now, you would not believe it to be the same station as the one in the video:-
