I suppose that this rather sad and worrying state of affairs is not really new news as we have all heard the warnings from doctors, nurses, NHS unions, health charities and various health watchdogs along these lines for quite a long time now.

As one of the richest counties in the world it shows how poor we are at running our own health service, or at least how poor the politicians are who run it for us.

But rest assured Boris is going to bring in £350m per week for the NHS via Brexit (the most infamous bus advert ever) so that’s going to be alright then – well it would be if it was not totally untrue like all the rest of the Brexit nonsense.

If the NHS does keel over this winter will Tory voters blame the Tories and Brexit; they should do.

Sadly we seem to hear far too many stories like this. How on earth do our most vulnerable citizens find themselves in ‘inadequate’ care? It shines a poor light on us all but particularly on the care providers.

With the right wing press obsessed with promoting Brexit, the Tories and of course Bake Off’s troubles this is a major issue that is simply not getting the profile that it needs.

As well as an NHS that is all but on its knees care for the elderly is also in crisis. You would think this should motivate us all to put in place, or to ensure that our political leaders put in place, the required solutions but apart from the wringing of hands and the pleas of Norman Lamb MP for a cross party approach to this appalling NHS/care crisis nothing much seems to happen.

The question is how bad does it have to get before we force MP’s and Government to take action. We all need a strong NHS and care provision you know!

And to quote Lib Dem Leader Tim Farron:- ‘We need a new deal for NHS & Social Care – services are under huge pressure; excuses and passing the buck not enough’
