Al Gore – Global Warming and how the rich are subverting our democracy

www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/jul/30/al-gore-interview-our-crumbling-planet-the-rich-have-subverted-all-reason-al-gore

The Guardian has the story on its web site – see link above

Quote from the article ‘With the sequel to his blockbuster documentary An Inconvenient Truth about to be released, Al Gore tells Carole Cadwalladr how his role at the forefront of the fight against climate change consumes his life.’

I have long held the view that global warming is the greatest threat to the human race but it is often one that takes a political back seat in favour of less important but allegedly more immediate concerns. Just think how much you heard about it in the recent General Election – very little I would guess.

Yet ignoring it and denying it condemns future generations to a potentially hellish existence. That great mind Professor Steven Hawking predicted only recently that we will in effect destroy our home world and will have to find another one to ransack.

Anyone who is a climate change denier, in my view, is a threat to our future – end of.

My thanks to Roy Connell for the lead to this story

May’s creationist, climate change denying, anti-abortion wing!

Well who would have thought it, the Conservatives being kept in office by a political party who seem to have some significant sectarian issues together with other human rights prejudices that are a real worry.

Firstly, I was somewhat amused by this Northern Ireland Poster, which may well come back to haunt the DUP. Yes it’s from a previous election but you get my drift:-

But of course the DUP are allegedly the reason why the NI Assembly fell apart and is still dysfunctional. The issue? Bizarrely it was not not a sectarian or human rights issue, as you might expect, but a green energy one.

This short perspective on the DUP by New Scientist is an eye opener:-

Looks like the DUP are about as far away from progressive politicians as you can find, indeed some of their views will be an embarrassment to even the Tories as they come more and more under the spotlight.

Trump – Teresa May needs to condemn him over his climate change stupidity

Below is Tim Farron’s open letter to Teresa May. Please consider signing the letter via the link at the bottom of it.

Climate Change is the biggest threat to us all and especially future generations. Climate Change deniers like Trump are putting the future of the human race in great danger and leaders like Teresa May need to stand out against him not sit back saying its disappointing!

Lib Dem Leader Tim Farron with Cllr. Pat Keith on Southport Station.

Dear Theresa,

We both know climate change is real.

It’s one of the greatest threats to all our futures and if we’re going to leave a better world for the next generation, we need to take tackling it seriously.

I was appalled last night when Donald Trump announced he was pulling out of the Paris Agreement.

That is an act of vandalism on a global scale. The effects of this decision will be felt for generations to come.

But I was bitterly disappointed when I heard you’d refused to join other European Leaders in condemning him.

If the special relationship means anything, it means that when an American president makes a decision that is so patently and catastrophically wrong, we should be able to say, clearly and plainly “You are wrong and you are putting us all in danger.”

Because Donald Trump is putting us all in danger.

So please, stand up with our European and Canadian allies and condemn Donald Trump’s reckless decision, before it’s too late.

We can’t sit by and just let this happen.

Tackling climate change isn’t just the right thing to do, it’s the only thing we can do if we want to leave a better world for our children.

Thank you,

Tim

Aintree Coal sidings – April 1911

This is an historic moment in time and I say that despite hailing from a Nottinghamshire mining community, where of course mining is no more.

I have blogged previously about coal mining and my connection with it. Here’s a link to a previous posting on this subject.

But as environmental campaigner who thinks that global warming and climate change are the biggest challenges we have just about ever faced I really do welcome our reducing reliance on fossil fuels that damage the very environment that we depend on for life.

Prof. Brian Cox deals with a climate change denier

Don’t you just love it when a climate change denier comes face to face with a common sense and brilliant scientific mind.

Now why am I not surprised that Malcolm Roberts is from Australia’s anti-immigration One Nation party.

I wonder how many UK Parliamentarians are climate change deniers?
