Social Care for the elderly – A disaster that is worsening every day

The Independent has the story on its web site – see link above

Norman Lamb MP

Quote from the article:-

Liberal Democrat former care minister Norman Lamb said: “This Government is completely failing to address the social care crisis which has left over a million vulnerable older people without the support they need.

“It is outrageous that they are now kicking the can further down the road, leaving the social care sector in a state of uncertainty.”

This vital issue affects every section of society as we will all potentially need social care when we are elderly. That means this is an obvious cross-party issue that should be addressed by the coming together of political foes for the benefit of the common good; something Norman Lamb has tried to bring about previously. Sadly, our ridiculously partisan political system leads to politicians opposing each other even when they agree but every day that this social care crisis is kicked down the road more of the elderly in our families will suffer from inadequate care.

Yet we still like to call ourselves civilised……..

General Election – Final thoughts

Teresa May is an appalling politician in my view. She comes across as harsh and uncaring. Her attack on pensioners is breathtaking via her Dementia Tax. And on the very Brexit issue she claimed to have called the election on she has clarified nothing whilst looking just like the very last person you would want to be negotiating with the EU for us.

Jeremy Corbyn is an old fashioned socialist from the 1970’s with a hankering for nationalisation. However, on the issue of poverty he is far from being robust. My view is that despite what looks like a left wing Labour Party they have all but abandoned the poor and those with nothing. Top that with backing Brexit and Labour are not really a progressive party at all.

Tim Farron is someone that I voted for in the party leadership election some time back. I do have my differences with him on issues such as Right to Die where I believe he has been fundamentally wrong. But on the wider picture he comes across as a true Liberal who is passionate about fighting for those with nothing. He’s condemned the Tories Dementia tax, he’s strong on environmental policy, he is a big backer of the NHS and of our personal freedoms which Teresa in particular wants to curtail.

Well you knew it anyway if you are a regular reader of this blog site – I’ll be voting for Tim’s party the Lib Dems.

The Tories will stop at nothing to stay in power

The Guardian has the story on its web site – see link above

This article is well worth a read as it gets behind some of the headlines that politicians put up to mislead us all. Taxation in particular leads to all kinds of half truths, misinformation and down right manipulation by politicians. Just look at the tangle, all of her own making I would add, that Teresa has got into over the so called Dementia Tax. Why even the Daily Mail lambasted her for that manifesto pledge that could end up being her poll Tax moment.

Pensions Triple Lock – Lib Dem pledge to keep it as Tory attacks on pensioner incomes mount

Only one political party will keep it – the one that ensured it was brought in to help pensioners – the Lib Dems:-

The Tories want to scrap it, along with winter fuel payments for some and they’re going to bring in a dementia tax too.

Who would want to be old with the Tories in power!

So it comes down to a dementia tax does it Teresa – How utterly appalling

Lib Dem leader Tim Farron tells Sky News that the PM’s “dementia tax… will become her version of the poll tax”.
