Come to Sunny Southport the advert said……

So I went, yesterday in fact, and had a grand day out at the cricket.

Lancashire County Cricket Club have been on their annual visit to Birkdale Cricket Ground and it is always a delight to be there even though I support Nottinghamshire CCC. I went to watch the 3rd day’s play in the 4 day 1st Division County Championship match against Durham and took these photos:-

I found a shady spot under some trees by the railway line and had a lovely relaxing day out. It must have been a near capacity crowd, I don’t think I have ever seen so many people in Birkdale Cricket Ground. What’s more the weather was cracking the flags; real cricket weather in Sunny Southport.

Pictured above is Glen Chapple – Lancashire County cricketer. An all-rounder who represented England in a single One Day International, as well as performing well for Lancashire over many years. He bowls right-arm fast-medium, and is a right-handed batsman.- pictured here at Southport’s Birkdale ground in May 2015. On this occasion he was not playing in Lancs County Championship match against Derbyshire but was out coaching a young bowler during a lunch interval.
