I seem to be dividing my very limited knowledge of things horticultural between Maghull in Bloom and Lydiate in Flower these days and my latest trick has been to learn how to attach Gateway Planters to Lydiate boundary signs.
We put one up at either end of Southport Road/Myerscough Lane to start with a few weeks back and have now added another 3 on the Civil Parish boundaries with Maghull on Kenyons Lane and on both Bells Lane and Punnell’s Lane with Great Altcar. They are all now planted up like the one below at Punnell’s Lane.
The planting was done by other LinF volunteers who know far more about plants than I ever will. Don’t the Gateway planters look grand though…..
Lydiate in Flower is a relatively new volunteer community group which aims to try to brighten up Lydiate.
It’s first initiative is to put gateway planters on the roads leading into the community. The first two flower troughs are now up at both ends of Southport Road on the Maghull and Downholland Civil Parish boundaries.
The photos above were taken on Southport Road and the flowers are looking great. The sponsorship is very much appreciated and the sign shows one of the sponsoring companies.
More Lydiate in Flower initiatives to follow.
I went along to the first public meeting of this new volunteer community group last night in Lydiate Village Centre.
It was pleasing to see Lydiate residents turning out for the meeting where we all learned about progress in setting the fledgling group up.
John and Madelaine Harrison came from the Maghull in Bloom volunteer group to give advice and assistance which was gratefully received.
The plan is to try to start with some spring planting in 2018 possibly via some ‘gateway planters’ on Lydiate’s boundaries with Maghull, Aughton and Down Holland. Other ideas are being considered too but the big job will be to bring in the finances to pay for such projects.
The volunteer group is looking for sponsorship from local businesses and to make grant applications. Lydiate Parish Council is putting £100 in the pot to start things off and helping with grant applications.
As a former Maghull resident I have been volunteering for Maghull in Bloom in recent years and now as as Lydiate resident I’m happy to get involved in Lydiate in Flower as well.
