Brexit – Tom Brake MP hits Labour square on the head!

Love this tweet from Tom Brake MP – sums up why Labour are nothing more than Tory lackeys over Brexit:-

‘Neither Govt nor Official Opposition have the solution to UK’s #Brexit problem. The first wants to drive us off the Brexit cliff. The second wants to drive us off the cliff and hover for 2 years before also crashing to the ground. We need a vote on the deal & an exit from Brexit’

Brexit – Where will the NHS find enough nurses?

The BBC has the story on its web site – see link above

Quote from the BBC posting – ‘Without EU nurses, it will be even harder for the NHS and other employers to find the staff they need to provide safe patient care.’

So the 52% of electors who chose to vote Out in last June’s EU Referendum have caused this! Thanks very much, what on earth were you thinking of? Don’t you have to visit an NHS hospital like the 48% of us who voted Remain?

The election that took us deeper into chaos

The Guardian has the story on its web site – see link above

Goodness this is a powerful insight into the mess that is UK politics today.

And what’s all this Labour celebrating about, they lost, progressive politics lost and we are in a worse situation than we were before the election was called!

The good ship HMS UK has been holed at the waterline yet again and we are firing the guns at ourselves!

With thanks to Roy Connell for the lead to this posting.

Labour pledges (internal and pretend) hand to hand combat on Brexit

You have to laugh or indeed cry as Labour simply don’t know what to do about Brexit.

They campaigned very meekly (with a few notable exceptions) to Remain but are now backing Brexit and they have held just about every possible position between the two since the EU Referendum. Talk about sitting on a fence and being unable to decide which side to get off!

But who are Labour actually pledging to have ‘HAND-TO-HAND COMBAT’ with? Well themselves obviously as they are desperately split on what to do. But are they really going to have a go at the Tories, whom they now fundamentally seem to agree with with over the principle of Brexit?

As I have said before this will lead to a lot of silly shadow boxing as they try to give the impression that they are opposing whilst actually Labour, Tories and UKIP are all in the same Leave boat.

Brexit – Thank goodness for those willing to uphold the law

I would like to think that however you voted in the EU Referendum you will agree that our government should follow the law and not try to circumvent it and Parliament.

If we agree on that then the ruling of the Supreme Court that Mrs May has to let Parliament have a say over Brexit should be very welcome indeed.

She had set her face, for reasons only she knows, against our democratic processes and it has taken the Supreme Court to hold her to account as our major opposition party is all but standing with her!

If we are ‘getting our country back’ as many Brexit enthusiasts say we are then why are some of them so opposed to our elected MP’s having a say?

We are supposed to be living in a representative democracy where Parliament is sovereign yet there is a worrying element of Brexit supporters who are pushing us towards a fascist state where Parliament is little more than a lap dog for the powerful. That’s not getting our country back!

But no worry Mrs May(day) Labour are with you anyway over Brexit as they have given up being the major party of opposition. Yes they will try to come up with the odd thing to make it look like they are keeping you on your toes but in reality they are in your pocket and you know that as well as we do.

Why is it that Tim Farron’s Lib Dems are the only UK-wide political party that is willing to be a voice for the 48% who voted to remain in the EU? With credit on this subject too of course to the SNP in Scotland.

Brexit ruling: BBC says Lord Chancellor backs judiciary amid row – Really?

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-37883576

The BBC has the story on its web site – see link above

I worry about the BBC and its lack of balls these days. It seems frightened of the right wing of British politics and we should all be concerned about that.

The BBC was a poor if not appalling commentator on the EU Referendum failing to expose lies that were told and often ducking the major issues that the electorate wanted to know the facts about by simply saying one side says this and the other says the opposite.

Now the BBC has this completely misleading headline which gives the impression that the Lord Chancellor is backing the judiciary when she is being little more than a fence sitter in the face a nationalistic and fascist media. Her job is to step in when our independent judiciary is under attack for defending the sovereignty of Parliament. After significant pressure, not least from some Tory MP’s, all she has managed is a vague generalised statement that means little.

“weak statement from a weak cabinet minister”

She and her Government are cowering behind the sofa as our right wing, out of control press tries to undermine the whole basis of our democratic system and the BBC knows that. We fought a civil war to guarantee the sovereignty of Parliament now it is now being undermined by our Government and press!

Admittedly the BBC does qualify somewhat better the actual position further down the piece but you get the impression that our BBC is struggling these days to really tackle big political issues with the tenacity it once did because it fears Government will attack it if it does.

We live in very dangerous times when the sovereignty of Parliament is under threat from Government and the right wing press and when our leading independent broadcaster also seems to be cowering behind the sofa. If this process carries on we are on our way to being a totalitarian fascist state which pretends to be a democracy. What’s even more worrying is that Labour, as the official opposition, seems to be looking for a spot behind the sofa too!
