Bill Esterson MP – Do us a favour Bill and defy the Labour Whip over Article 50

We know you have been told by Jeremy Corbyn how to vote in Parliament over Brexit and Article 50 Bill but this issue is far bigger than Labour Party loyalty; our fragile economy is at stake and many other things too.

Please defy the whips and vote not to trigger Article 50; this is a time to stand up and be counted not to just follow what your Leader tells you to do.

Labour rattled by Independent candidate in Maghull & Lydiate’s Park Ward

Readers will recall that I let slip that Labour had almost lost a by-election in Maghull a few weeks ago to an independent Green Belt campaigner – they clung onto the seat by just 3 votes. This was the election that for some very odd reason the local press decided not to report the result of and that suited Labour down to the ground.

However, I knew they (Labour) would be rattled and therefore it was no surprise that when a Labour election leaflet popped through my door the other day that it was attacking the Green Belt campaigners that they are so frightened of.

Under the heading of ‘Vote Independent, get Conservative?’ Labour are clearly trying to suggest that the independent candidate (in Park Ward) may be a Tory sympathiser. BUT the lady standing as the independent candidate was a Labour supporter until Labour said they would defend the Green Belt but then voted on Sefton Council to build on it! She is fighting Labour because they said one thing and did the opposite.

Bizarre or what?

Maghull – What a strange address for a council candidate.

More on that strange situation whereby Nina Killen a Labour councillor from Formby is crossing the Borough of Sefton to trying to get re-elected in Maghull’s Sudell ward that I posted about a few days ago.

I have also separately made mention of Labour’s new candidate for Park ward, which nieghbours Sudell ward. You see both Labour’s candidates have written to their local electors but there is one very significant difference between the two letters.

The Park ward letter clearly gives the address of Labour’s candidate for that ward as the address at which he lives. The Sudell ward letter gives an address on Sefton Lane Industrial Estate in Maghull which I am betting is not where Nina Killen lives!

Maghull – Can Labour not find a Maghull candidate to stand for Sudell Ward?

Some rather bizarre news has come to my attention and it’s with regard to who the Labour Candidate is to be in Sefton Council’s Sudell Ward in May’s local elections. The ward covers the eastern side of Maghull. It’s none other than the present Labour Councillor for Sefton’s Harrington Ward in Formby, Nina Killen.

The following is from the web site of Sefton Central Labour MP Bill Esterson

‘Nina Killen is Harington Ward’s Labour Councillor.

Cllr Killen is a Formby mum and a national newspaper journalist. She is a member of Formby’s Holy Trinity Church.’ and ‘she works with her fellow members of Formby Labour Action Team to ensure that the concerns and issues of her fellow Formby residents are tackled.’

No mention of Maghull here and no mention of her leaving Formby either.

Now then why is Nina, who is quite obviously a Formby resident, wanting to stop representing her own community and at the same time make a bid to represent another community that she clearly does not live in? Why does Maghull Labour Party need to import a candidate from another community? Is the long list of Maghull Labour Councillors resigning in recent times an indicator to the answer to the last question? What’s happening to the present Labour Councillor for Sudell Ward whose seat it is that comes up for re-election in May?

Maghull Labour are a cocky lot and you wonder if they have concluded that they can put any name on a ballot paper and because they wear a Labour rosette the good folks of Maghull will automatically elect them. This may or may not be a correct gamble of course but it still begs the questions above to which I assume we will not be getting any answers soon.

All very intriguing.

Netto store for Maghull – well it seems so

Well Morrisons must be sighing with a little bit of relief as it’s a Netto store that it is likely to have as a neighbour. The nightmare Aldi alternative (as surely it would have seen Morrisons off?) seems not to be a runner if the recent planning application to Sefton Council is anything to go by for the old Maghull Library/Stafford Moreton Youth Centre site.

index

The site is at the junction of Stafford Moreton Way and Liverpool Road North and presently looks like this:-

The former Stafford Moreton Youth Centre and old Maghull Library in the heart of Maghull's shopping area.

The Scandinavian Netto is now a part of the Sainsburys Group of companies.

Here’s a link to the planning application before Sefton Council:-

This is of course the very same site that Maghull’s Labour Councillors bizarrely invited folks to say what they wanted it to be used for, when only the following day Sefton Council’s Labour Cabinet sold the site off, ignoring their fellow ‘comrades’ completely! My previous postings of a couple of weeks ago refer.

Maghull Labour – Yet another resignation!!!!!

What is it with Labour councillors in Maghull, they seem to resign by the minute and it has happened yet again with a Cllr. Jenny Southern going!

Maghull Town Hall

Labour was only elected with a clean sweep of 16 councillors on Maghull Town Council in May of this year yet already one has gone and that follows the almost too many to count (9 in fact – including one in Formby) Labour resignations of recent times.

Notice of vacancy posted on Maghull Town Hall
