Social Care for the elderly – A disaster that is worsening every day

The Independent has the story on its web site – see link above

Norman Lamb MP

Quote from the article:-

Liberal Democrat former care minister Norman Lamb said: “This Government is completely failing to address the social care crisis which has left over a million vulnerable older people without the support they need.

“It is outrageous that they are now kicking the can further down the road, leaving the social care sector in a state of uncertainty.”

This vital issue affects every section of society as we will all potentially need social care when we are elderly. That means this is an obvious cross-party issue that should be addressed by the coming together of political foes for the benefit of the common good; something Norman Lamb has tried to bring about previously. Sadly, our ridiculously partisan political system leads to politicians opposing each other even when they agree but every day that this social care crisis is kicked down the road more of the elderly in our families will suffer from inadequate care.

Yet we still like to call ourselves civilised……..

Norman Lamb – The MP who gives voice to mental health issues

Norman Lamb MP is well known these days for his tireless work in trying to ensure that mental health services are at least on a par with physical health services in the NHS.

But Norman has wider health related interests too. He serves as the Lib Dem Health Spokesperson and as a chair of the Science and Technology Select Committee in Westminster.

Last Wednesday Norman was in Liverpool for a tour around the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine as part of his overall health portfolio.

After his tour he met some local people with an interest in his campaigning and Maghull’s Jen Robertson was amongst those present:-

It’s time to give a **** about mental illness

The story is Lib Dem MP Norman lamb’s web site – see link above

I think it fair to say that I don’t see eye to eye with Norman over some things but on this subject he is spot on and always has been.

The lack of significant progress fast enough to transform mental health care treatment is inexcusable so I am more than happy to back the stance being taken by Norman and fellow MP’s across the political spectrum.

BREXIT – will we lose the EHIC card?

The Independent has the story on its web site – see link above

Looks like this valued card may be at risk. Is this going to be another potential negative effect of Brexit? But will it sober up a Labour Party, who are supposed to be Her Majesty’s opposition, but which seem to be daily more firmly in Teresa May’s Brexit back pocket?

Care sector woes leave frail at risk, regulator says – BBC web site

The BBC has this most worrying story on its web site – see link above

With the right wing press obsessed with promoting Brexit, the Tories and of course Bake Off’s troubles this is a major issue that is simply not getting the profile that it needs.

As well as an NHS that is all but on its knees care for the elderly is also in crisis. You would think this should motivate us all to put in place, or to ensure that our political leaders put in place, the required solutions but apart from the wringing of hands and the pleas of Norman Lamb MP for a cross party approach to this appalling NHS/care crisis nothing much seems to happen.

The question is how bad does it have to get before we force MP’s and Government to take action. We all need a strong NHS and care provision you know!

And to quote Lib Dem Leader Tim Farron:- ‘We need a new deal for NHS & Social Care – services are under huge pressure; excuses and passing the buck not enough’
