In case you did not know:-

Northern Line:

Formby – Another death at Fishermans Path level crossing

www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/freshfield-level-crossing-victim-killed-10768110

The Liverpool Echo has the tragic story – see link above – and my posting of 8th August 2015 also carried the story of the previous tragedy – see link below:-

tonyrobertson.mycouncillor.org.uk/2014/08/28/a-tragedy-on-our-merseyrail-network-freshfieldainsdale/

Clearly Network Rail and Sefton Council have to urgently find a way of replacing this dangerous level crossing with a bridge which is suitable for pedestrians (and cyclists) of all abilities.

If this latest tragedy is not the spur to take urgent action I don’t know what will be. Why on earth did Network Rail not come up with an acceptable bridge after they withdrew their previous planning application?

Merseyrail – Getting new trains? Saw a funny one yesterday in Southport

As the saga of whether or not Merseyrail is going to be getting new trains in the future drags on and on (there are numerous previous posts mentioning this subject) a chance visit to a section of Merseyrail’s Northern Line in Southport brought this strange machine into sight:-

Merseyrail's new train!r

At first glance it looks like it is on the tracks but it is actually at the side of them. So probably not a prototype new mini-loco being tested. In fact it is a mobile wood chipper as the trees along the line were being chopped back last Sunday when the trains were not running.

Maghull – Station Volunteers

rsz_maghull_station_volunteers

I have posted many times before about the work this great band of volunteers have done to improve Maghull Station. Here is another example of how they have, with the help of Margaret Walton – a local painter, brought colour to another former window in the Station buildings.
