Who would be a postman/woman! – Royal Mail, Maghull

With dangerous dogs seeming more and more around our streets attacking people who would be a postwoman/man. It must be dangerous business.

This poster was seen in the Royal Mail Parcel Collection Point in Maghull’s Sorting Office. 3,000 post people bitten in one year! Click on the picture below to enlarge it.

I really do hope that the Royal Mail takes action whenever possible to prosecute irresponsible dog owners. Postmen and women should not have to put up with being attacked or being in continual fear of being bitten. I was attacked by a dog in a street in Thornton a few years ago and there was a successful prosecution. I am also aware of a dog attack on a Maghull street recently which the Police are looking into.

Royal Mail Sorting Office Gardens – Maghull

My previous posting refers at:-

Sadly things have slipped back at this Liverpool Road North site as the regular maintenance that was suppose to take place has not happened.

My understand and indeed that of the Maghull in Bloom volunteers was that Kennet Prison had obtained a license from the Royal Mail to do the original work and to conduct regular maintenance with the work to be undertaken by Kennet Prison’s rehabilitating offenders.

I am trying to get to the bottom of this matter and will report back when I know more.

Royal Mail to pilot Sunday service for parcel deliveries

The BBC has the story.

A great idea, not before time, let’s hope it’s a success. And by the way please send me my goods via the Royal Mail not one of those delivery companies where you have to travel miles to reach their regional depot. Royal Mail Sorting Offices are far more accessible.

Labour – What the comrades say is not what the comrades do – Not Sefton’s Green Belt this time but Post Offices.

I have posted before about the ‘say one thing do another’ that Labour in these parts gets up to. Three examples that immediately spring to mind are:-

* Voting to build on Green Belt land at Bells Lane, Lydiate then trying to pretend they did just the opposite.

* Claiming to be opposing development of Urban Greenspace land off Damfield Lane, Maghull then voting through the development of the very same land.

* Voting to consult the people of Sefton on their plan to build on the Green Belt then putting up posters saying Labour wants to save the Green Belt.

Now they are at it again but this time with that cherished British institution the Post Office. Remember when Labour were in power and they closed Post Offices across the UK by the hundreds?

233 in 1999, 382 in 2000, 547 in 2001 etc. etc.

This included, just in Maghull & Lydiate, 4 branch Post Offices being shut under a Labour Government:-

• Moss Lane Lydiate,
• Station Road Maghull
• Meadows (Liverpool Road South) Maghull
• Liverpool Road (Coronation Shops) Lydiate

Lib Dem campaigners fighting to save 4 Post Offices from Labour's axe some 10 years ago. No Labour protestors here; they stayed at home and let the closures happen!

Thanks Labour, this left Lydiate with no Post Office what so ever!

But now Labour are all upset over the future of Post Offices and were recently pictured outside Maghull’s Deyes Lane Post Office. The Deyes Lane Post Office is moving to Moss Lane Maghull, (not to be confused with Moss Lane Lydiate mentioned above) because the people running the business that includes the Post Office are retiring.

The move of the Post Office to Moss Lane is unpopular and will certainly be inconvenient for many who have long used the Deyes Lane business, but who is to blame for this? No one really, it is a combination of circumstances whereby a sub-postmaster wants to retire, no one in the Deyes Lane parade of shops seemingly wants to pick up/take on the Post Office business but, some distance away at Moss Lane, someone does want to take on the Post Office business. In effect the business will move unless a shop owner at the Deyes Lane shops agrees to integrate a Post Office facility within their present business or indeed set up a new business there.

So why then is Labour circulating a leaflet implying that the Lib Dems are responsible for what is happening to the Deyes Lane Post Office? Apart from simply misrepresenting the facts they must be trying to cover up their own wretched and quite recent history of Post Office closures both locally and nationally!

Cheeky beggars must think we all have short memories.

Items you cannot send by International mail

I could not help but be struck by a guide issued by the Royal Mail/Post Office/Parcel Force because surprisingly you can’t send things such as ammunition, controlled drugs and narcotics, explosives, human or animal remains, infectious substances & pathogens and weapons (amongst a much longer list of banned items/substances) by international mail.

What worried me was why on earth would anyone be considering sending such things in the post in first place and would those who are mad enough to think sending them is a good idea be influenced by a leaflet that you can seemingly pick up at any Post Office or Royal mail Sorting Office?

Royal Mail Sorting Office – Maghull

At last the uncared for garden at the front of it is being cared for and no it has nothing to do with the Council.

How many times have I both gone on about this unkempt shrubbery area and tried to get the Royal Mail, Sefton Council or Maghull Town Council to do something about it?

But he who waits! The job has been started and it is looking great but do you know who is behind this work? Well I will tell you, it has been organised by Maghull in Bloom volunteers and soon to be released offenders from Kennet Prison are presently doing the work.

Here are some before and during the work photos:-
